Viesturs Meikšāns
Performances directed by the young director Viesturs Meikšāns (born on June 26, 1980) have roused interest among both, the theatre spectators and reviewers. Even the first productions by Viesturs in the theatre Skatuve, when he was still studying in the Academy of Culture, were noticed and nominated for the Annual Latvian Theatre Award 2006 in the category Debut of the Year. The Director was the winner of the award The Young Dramatic Artist for his plays in Valmiera theatre in the season of 2008/2009: Phantom Pains by Vasily Sigarev and Marionettes by Ingmar Bergman. The production of the play by the great Latvian poet Rainis Golden Horse has won the prize Diena Annual Culture Award from the biggest Latvian newspaper The Diena, and this fact is a sound indication that the play will be nominated also for the Latvian Annual Theatre Award.
Even the first Viesturs Meikšāns’ productions testify that he has talent and knowledge to work with actors and help them to reveal unprecedented psychological insights. The most difficult and complicated problems or horrible relationships in the productions of Viesturs are shown through the prism of playfulness and this attracts the theatre audience. He chooses only the high class literary pieces, although almost all his plays up so far staged have been marked in the programmes after literature masterpieces.
